2017 – Our First Adventure

Our adventure started with crossing Lake Erie and transiting the Welland Canal. Once in Lake Ontario we traveled across the lake to Kingston, Ontario. From there we headed over to the USA side of the river to Clayton and then Alexandria Bay. Then we returned to the Canadian side, and traveled down the St Lawrence River to Montreal, Quebec City, and then out into the St Lawrence Seaway.

Our next major stop was Tadoussac, a MAJOR whale watching area. This is at the entrance to the Saguenay fjord. Then we headed over to the East side of the seaway, North to Riviere-au-Renaud on the tip of the Gaspe peninsula. We passed the peninsula and turned South, visited the Gannet colony off Perce and then headed down to Shediac, Summerside on Prince Edward Island and Charlottetown, the capital of PEI.

We left PEI and sailed to Port Hawkesbury, then on to Canso on the North East tip of Nova Scotia. We traveled down the coast to Halifax, Carter Beach and then across the Bay of Fundy to SouthWest Harbor in Maine. From there we went to Boothbay Harbor, sailed down the New England coast to Plymouth, passed through the Cape Cod canal and sailed to Newport. From there we sailed around Block Island to Atlantic City, then made our way South to Norfolk, Virginia, arriving there in early October.

After some time visiting family, we headed south to Key West where we spent the winter. We took a bit of time to visit family and friends in Fort Myers and Tampa, as well as taking a trip to the Dry Tortugas. Then we headed up the coast for a short visit with friends in the Boston area before sailing down the Long Island Sound into the city of New York. Then we took the Hudson River from New York up to Albany where we dropped our mast and took the Erie Canal to Buffalo and then headed back to our home marina in Port Clinton after spending a few days decompressing in the Lake Erie Islands.
